JUICY HOSTS TEEN VOGUE PARTY

Hundreds of fabulous girls from forty different countries kicked off Teen Vogue’s annual Fashion University with Juicy Couture.

The launch cocktail party was hosted by Juicy at their 5th Ave Flagship in New York City. The energy in the line outside the party was an indication of what was to come and that excitement exploded when the Girls hit the store floor. They sipped on smoothies and pink lemonade, devoured treats from silver platters all as they experienced the colorful and insanely fun world of Juicy Couture. There was a DJ spinning and NY band Lion of Ido added to the frenzy. All had an amazing NY night, meeting new friends, taking photos, exchanging emails and of course a little retail therapy. Juicy was thrilled to be host to these up and coming trendsetters that will surely make up the next generation of fashion mavens.

Bruton Street Party

We were so proud to finally show off our gorgeous Bruton Street store in London. We had the perfect mix of Southern Cal and Anglomania – there were crazy palm trees in sand on the pavement (that’s sidewalk in the glamorous USA) outside the divine three story Georgian townhouse. We served fish and chips, mac n cheese, shepherds pie and of course amazing Grandma’s sour apple pie. I wore a bespoke Union Jack bustle over my Bird leggings and Erica jacket. The party was psychotic as was the guest list – Lily Cole, Jade Jagger, John Taylor, Nick Rhodes, The Le Bons (Yasmin, Simon and Amber), Roger Taylor, Tolula Adeyemi, Dinos Chapman, Jenni Falconer, Melissa Odabash, Ben Grimes, Tamara Beckwith and many more beautiful and fun people. The amazing Leigh Lezark and Geordon Nicol from the MisShapes flew in from New York to DJ sending everyone into a frenzy.

Rule Britannia!

It is a dream come true to be able to launch our new Couture Couture fragrance - we've always been obsessed with fragrance! When we first became partners we used to shop at a little shop on Melrose called Homebodies. We would mix oils together - sandalwood, vanilla and patchouli. Even back in the day people would say "Oh my g-d, what are you wearing??" So we are so happy to bring Couture Couture to you… It is reminiscent of the oils we used to mix and it is influenced by our beautiful "It Girl", Zoe. She is the life of the party, super cool, eclectic and she's always up for Doing the Dont's - talking to strangers, being loud, making a mess, being late…knowing she can always get what she wants!

Rainbow Vans

The first thing I ever designed was a pair of Vans sneakers. My mom drove me to the shop in the Val and I designed full blown rainbow Vans - red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple - when they arrived I slept with them under my pillow. From then on all I wanted to do was design clothes. All my GF's were into Rock Stars and I was obsessed with sneakers & surf culture. I was a girly girl but I also fit right in with my brother and his skateboard friends. I guess I was a girly girl tomboy!
Nothing like communing with nature, being in the water & skateboarding on a gorgeous summer day, not having a care in the world.

London calling!

Juicy Couture London

London calling! Our first UK store is opening July 16 and we can't wait for you to see it. It's an amazing 18th Century townhouse at 27 Bruton Street in the fab Mayfair district of London. G&P want to paint the town PINK!

We've always loved Bruton Street since we discovered the Hartnell building was Norman Hartnell’s atelier - where he designed Queen Elizabeth II’s clothing, including her glamorous wedding gown. And now we're in the building next door! It'll be super fun and you know how much we LOVE Royalty.

The building was built in 1705 and our team has worked very closely with the London Heritage Society to restore as many fabulous original details as possible, including eight incredible fireplaces, molding, staircases and the black and white marble flooring in the entrance hall.

We couldn’t be more thrilled to open in London…

Watch out, here we come - The Juicy Invasion!

Juicy Couture & Paper Magazine honor NYU Student Photographer

Pam and I wanted to tell you about our cool photo competition held by Juicy and Paper Magazine. The contest was called, "Shoot Your Style", and was a competition for NYU’s Tisch School of Arts students* Ok, there were so many photographs entered it took us 3 episodes of Gossip Girls to choose our winner! So congratulations! and Wooo Hooo!...to...wait for it...Max Lakner!!!! - the 19 year old film major from New York City. Max’s universe is totally original as is his understanding of composition, lighting and subject matter. His sense of composition is great- we love his saturated colors!

To celebrate Max’s win and show off his original photographs we held a party at our Juicy Couture store on Bleecker Street in New York.

Here’s some stuff about Max...
Max’s Hungarian and Russian background influence his visions and give him a very continental viewpoint. He works closely with his collaborator and muse-manqué Leah Hennessey, creating pataphyisical realist dream-scapes, turning beautiful people into chimeras. Max is inspired by Federico Fellini, Lieko Shiga, Guy Bourdin, and Juergen Telle. He says when he was young he wanted to be a novelist but after picking up a camera at the age of 13, he knew that photography was his future.

Well done Max!

Viva La Wall! Part 2. The Unveiling

It was quite a night. I ended up racing downtown with Philip Johnson, the amazing designer who created the “Juicy Wall” for FIDM. We were insanely late – but it turned out all right. When we got there they ushered us into a cocktail reception and plied us with champagne. Pam got to see some of her old teachers and then Councilwoman Jan Perry presented us with a beautiful parchment proclamation from the mayor of Los Angeles.

We were all laughing as she read all the “Whereas” and “Wherefores,” but I have to say we felt really honored being acknowledged in this way for our contribution to fashion and to our hometown. Pammy, who’s not usually sentimental, actually got quite emotional. She said a few words of thanks, started to tear-up and, as usual, made me do the rest of the talking.

We went upstairs for the unveiling of the “Wall”; an incredible Viva La Juicy collage of surfboards and peacocks and stenciled crowns and our venerable knight in shining pink armor. Two lovely students presented us with gorgeous pink bouquets, Noah made funny faces while the photographers snapped pictures, and Pam had the best line of the night: “When I went to school here, there was the Bob Mackie wall!”

Pamela:

After that we popped into a couple of classrooms to say “Hi.” The students looked a bit startled and I’m sure were wondering “What the hell?!?” with Gela and I flouncing in, but it was fun seeing what they were up to. I was totally shocked when one of the instructors turned out to be Michael Perelman, a really talented artist I went to elementary school with! Small world.

Noah was psyched when we got to Carl’s Junior, but I was freaking cuz my right eye was completely burning and red now from the eyelash glue. Everyone told me to calm down and it’d be better in the morning, but it was worse in the morning and I had to go to the eye doctor. I guess the moral of the story is: follow your dreams, work your butt off, and if you’re in a rush, FORGET the false eyelashes!

Viva Las Vegas!

Viva Las Vegas

Pamela:

Hooray for Christmas vacation! Had an exhausting few months at work and can’t wait for my long weekend in Las Vegas with Noah, my sister, Lisa, her girls and my folks. Love to gamble. Black Jack is my game of the moment, although I used to be a Roulette freak. Also looking forward to catching up with some reading. I’m halfway through Christopher Ciccone’s Life with My Sister Madonna and loving it. I also have the Barbara Walter’s book, Audition: A Memoir, which I hear is great.

My family’s going to see Cirque de Soleil’s Love – the one set to Beatles music. I never go to shows in Vegas, (or anywhere else, if I can help it), but it’s supposed to be really amazing, so maybe I’ll check it out.

The highlight of any trip to Vegas is always a meal at Joe’s Stone Crab. I don’t think there’s anything I love more than fresh, cracked crab. We’re also having dinner at French chef Laurent Tourondel’s BLT Burger – and we go crazy there! Kobe beef burgers, milkshakes, onion rings, skinny fries and their insane deserts. We always order a few and share. My favorite is the Macaroon Ice Cream Sandwich, but the S’More, and the “Krispy Kreme” Doughnut Bread Pudding are also divine.

Supposedly it snowed on the strip the other day, so I’m bringing the new Juicy leopard coat which is very cute and super cozy. I don’t really “dress” in Vegas and I travel super light, so that probably means a couple of our cashmere tracksuits and whatever boots I happen to be wearing. Comfy and casual all the way!

In 2004 we had a big party in Vegas for the opening of the first Juicy store at the Caesars Palace Forum Shops. We had planes taking guests back and forth from L.A., but I was nervous about flying then, so my friend Blair and I took a car. On the way back it was snowing, and I have to say, seeing Vegas and the desert covered in snow was unbelievably gorgeous and surreal. I’ll never forget it.

Viva La Wall! Part 1. The Journey

What a night! Gela and I were being honored with a “Juicy Wall” at The Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising (FIDM) where I studied design. I’d taken Noah on a school field trip that day and by the time we got home, dressed and back in the car we were literally running an hour late! To top it off we hit tons of traffic and to top that off, I had the sneaking suspicion I’d gotten eyelash glue in my eye. I was very stressed to say the least.

Once traffic started moving, I calmed down a bit. Noah was really excited – not so much to see where his crazy mom went to school, but Jef promised him Carl’s Junior on the way home (whatever works!). In honor of the occasion, he wanted me to tell him the story about how I was young and irresponsible and had a million parking tickets and a “boot” on my car, and I was dating daddy and applying to FIDM, and daddy really encouraged me to go. It’s true. That’s how it all started.

It’s also true that growing up in the 70’s, the only clothes I liked were French T-shirts and Dittos which totally influenced what I did at FIDM and what Gela and I set out to do with Juicy. While the other students were doing all these complicated designs, I was always focused on clean, basic, wearable clothes, like the ones I grew up wearing.

Thinking back on my FIDM years . . .

• The most useful thing I learned was how to put a collection together.

• The most fun were the “homework” sewing parties I used to have on our dining room table.

• The most memorable thing was my last project; a line of hats called Helmet , that I went on to manufacture and sell to Barney’s and Fred Segals.

• The most important was an inspiring drawing teacher, Nancy Riegelman, who really encouraged me.
