The so-called “King of LA” is now being served up as a cocktail.

Kale currently retains “it food” status in Los Angeles (and New York), and rightfully so. The trendy leafy green is an excellent source of vitamins, nutrients, antioxidants, minerals and fiber, that fills you up without filling you out. Leave it to LA health nuts to compile an endless list of ways to inhale their kale. The most recent way: with a bit of booze.  Now you can order a Kale Cocktail at the Nappa Valley Grille in Westwood.  It’s not always on the menu but for those who know to ask, it’s available for $12. Here, we share the recipe, complements of General Manager Tracy Thayer.

Cheers to a healthy cocktail!

“Jolly Green Giant”

2 parts fresh kale juice (blend fresh baby kale with a little water in a blender)

 3 parts fresh lemonade

 1 part Hendrick’s Gin

 1/2 part St. Germain

2 parts club soda

1/2 part agave syrup (optional)

Shake vigorously with ice in a cocktail shaker.

Strain and serve up in a martini glass.
