Read It | Houses of the Sundown Sea
The most eye catching houses in California didn’t build themselves.
Malibu architect Harry Gesner came up with the design for his famous Wave House while he was (you guessed it) in the ocean. At 86 years old this SoCal hero still surfs every day and set the eco-chic trend long before “green” was in vogue. Thanks to this beautiful monolith Houses of the Sundown Sea, we can get a closer look at the long and vibrant life of this self-taught genius. So much of his one-of-a-kind architecture graces our Golden State, and as a rule, Gesner always considered the natural surroundings to enhance his work. We love and respect this man as a groundbreaking architect, eccentric role model and bonafide Californian.
Written by Lisa Germany with photography by Juergen Nogai and hand-drawn floor plans, sketches and blue prints from Gesner himself, this piece makes for an excellent gift and a splash of eye candy for any table or shelf.
