Focus On | The Sweat Shop
Hollywood’s latest detox craze left us dripping with sweat.
It’s no secret that Angelenos love to detox. Whether it’s The Caveman Diet, The Master Cleanse, a juicing regimen or a colonic, we’ll try it in hopes to feel and look better. Our latest wellness obsession is The Sweat Shop. Located on Hollywood’s increasingly hip Cahuenga corridor, conveniently adjoined to Life Food Organic, this infrared sauna treatment center offers personal rooms equipped with a sauna, filtered shower and organic bath supplies for $35 an hour. Additionally, clients can enjoy massage, acupuncture, Thetahealing, all-natural injections and IV drips, Ultrasonic Laser Therapy sessions, and more.
The space is decorated in a contemporary eco-chic style that makes you feel like you’ve been whisked away to that fancy Palm Springs detox center you daydream of visiting. The holistic vibe (created by energy-crystals at the front desk and desert plants outside of each room) sets the tone for your visit. We found the experience therapeutic, but weren’t that surprised to find out that many customers bring their phones and iPads in with them to catch up on emails while they “relax.”
Before our sauna session, Mina the owner gave us our very first Lipotropic Injection, which she explained would rev our metabolism, boost our immune system and amplify the entire experience. We sat in the sauna (set to 140 degrees — yea, “that’s hot”) for almost an hour, ridding ourselves of those hard to reach toxins stored up to three inches deep in our system, that only the Infrared treatment gets out.
We were drenched after just five minutes and at the end of the hour felt amazing: freshly showered, refreshed, replenished and raring to go. We learned that clients burn up to 600 calories sitting in the sauna, and that heating the body like that works it the same as if you ran 6 miles! Next time we feel like taking a day off from the gym, or like we need to sweat a late-night out of our system…you know where to find us.
East Coast Couturists, keep your eyes out — Mina and her husband Julian mentioned they have franchise opportunities in NYC in the works.
